Biscuits - sweet and cute

This tradition should not be missing in any Advent season: baking biscuits! Whether in the shape of stars, Christmas trees and boots or as little animals - the little biscuits are easy to produce and above all they are fun to make. And when stored in a tin they also last a wonderfully long time! 

But where does this custom come from? There are many different theories. One is based on the Celts, for example, who wanted to make sacrifices to the spirits on the winter solstice to appease them. And because real animals were very precious, they baked small cakes in the shape of animals. 

Stuffed lace - spicy and sweet

It is probably the intense spices such as cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg that have made traditional gingerbread such a flavour hit. Their aroma was only intensified by long storage over several weeks or even months. The result is an absolutely delicious pastry.

But if you now add sweet jam inside (in our case it is strawberry and cherry) and a crunchy chocolate coating on the outside, an exciting interplay of contrasts in the mouth is created. Ready are the filled tips! By the way, these are produced by us all year round.

Coconut macaroons - airy and light

Macaroons actually originate from the Arab world, where they were traditionally made from almonds, sugar and rose water. This recipe found its way to Europe and from there to America. In the course of time, numerous variations of this light and airy pastry developed. In our country, for example, the almond croissant was one of these variations.

In the United States of America, however, there was another success story: the coconut macaroon. This is because coconuts were much easier to get here than almonds. This version, which was actually developed by Jewish bakers, soon delighted the palates of all and finally came back to Europe. Its airy lightness is almost reminiscent of snow and is therefore still enjoyed at Christmas.
